Description

A superb and beautifully proportioned Regency breakfront open bookcase in the style of William Trotter of Edinburgh and designs by George Smith. Constructed from fine figured mahogany and decorated with carved honeysuckle, anthemion, patrae and applied half turnings. The whole in very good, untouched original condition. The well carved pediments above the open bookcase sections which retain the original shelves and adjustable supports. The square tapering and scrolling stiles having carved detail and joining the base top which houses three pull out slides. The lower section with conforming stiles and 4 panelled doors, the centre doors open to a well fitted chest interior consisting of 8 various sized oak lined drawers including a cellarette and 2 cutlery drawers. The drawers benefit from retaining the original sunken gilded brass swan neck handles.The whole raised on a breakfront split turning plinth with turned feet.
