Silver and Tortoise Shell Lidded Double Lidded Vanity Jar

Description

A really superb and most unusual cut crystal powder jar, beautiful heavy glass in excellent clean condition.

The lid is what makes this piece particularly unusual, made from English sterling silver with an English hallmark for London 1924, there is also the British registration number for 1924. The top is made from a glossy polished piece of Tortoiseshell with a delicate silver pique inlay.

The hinged lid lifts to reveal a compartment, presumably created for some kind of cream; this entire lid then lifts off from the glass; I have never had this kind of double action lidded jar before.

Excellent condition and ready for use, measuring 4 1/2" in diameter and standing 2 1/4" tall.
