Description

A very good quality early/mid 19th century English mahogany WRITING BOX in excellent and complete condition.

The box itself is of finely-figured mahogany, profusely inlaid with brass-work and inset with a vacant shaped brass cartouche to the lid, with matching key escutcheon to the front and recessed military-style handles to either side.

It opens to reveal an interior complete with pair of original “patented” ink bottles and a blind-tooled velvet writing surface which opens to reveal a set of three “secret” drawers. It also retains its original pair of brass candlesticks which fit into two small holes, specifically used for writing after dark. Complete with its original (working) key.
