Description
A three-quarter size French bell-striking and repeating alarm carriage clock complete with its original wooden outer case. The clock has been regilded to be presented as the maker intended it. The four corners of the case have a lovely scalloped design, continuing down through the columns and base giving a pleasing 'pinched' effect. The handle folds both ways. When folded down, the height of the clock is only 13cms. The 8-day movement strikes the hours and the passing of the half hour on a small bell - a clear 'ting' tone rather than the more usual 'dong' of a gong. The last hour struck repeats on pressing the button on the top of the case. The movement retains its original lever platform escapement. The backplate is numbered 6323, with French script for the hands and alarm winding. The white enamel dial has Roman numerals over the smaller alarm dial below. The movement is awaiting servicing, hence detailed photos are not included. The price included the overhaul and a 3-year guarantee. Height: 16cms with the handle up. Antique bell-striking carriage clocks are in much shorter supply than gong-striking examples. Internal Ref: B81
