A rare antique Amritsar rug from Northern India. The all over design of palmettes, arabesques and birds has its roots based firmly in the Safavid carpets woven Persia centuries before. This example was likely woven in one of the numerous gaols that produced the highly decorative rugs. Condition is pretty good for its type, some low pile and corrosion, minimal repair, all ends and sides secured, deep cleaned, mothproofed and floor ready. Late 19th century.
