Large, high quality, hand painted portrait miniature of Lola Montez after the painting by Karl Joseph Stieler, circa 1870
Lola was adventurous, high spirited, fascinating and beautiful. She was a professional dancer, wife and courtesan.
Born Eliza Rosanna Gilbert in Ireland she spent her early childhood in India and was educated in England.
Lola lived, loved and worked in Paris ,Warsaw, Munich, Australia and the U.S.A. where she died at the age of 39.
The original of this portrait was commissioned by Ludwig I of Bavaria one of her lovers who made Lola Countess of Landsfeld.
Well executed and richly coloured, an eye catching portrait miniature, bears the signature Stieler.
In the original carved ivory veneered frame with orginal softly bevelled glass.
All in very good, bright condition with no damage or repair.
The frame 6,3/8'' x 4,7/8'' or 163mm x 124mm.
