In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
The chest has an overhanging planked top above moulded edge and stands on bracket feet. The drawers have oval brass plate handles which have been put on later but suit the piece well and match the brass escutcheons.
The chest is in good condition for its age. It is strong and sturdy and has developed a wonderful rich patina. The drawers open and close smoothly having had their runners recently repaired and they are generally clean and tidy inside. It has picked up various small knocks, marks and signs of age and use and some old stains on the top but nothing detrimental. There are signs of historic woodworm in the back panels and back feet which has all been treated as a precaution. The chest has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
