Description

This delightful 18th Century silver banded tortoiseshell etui* is of tapering form and is charmingly inlaid with a bright-cut silver border and an initialled silver cartouche to the lid. The hinged lid opening to reveal a fitted interior complete with the original and undamaged scent bottle, a rather rare occurrence, making it very desirable.

Push button mechanism at the front.

stud decorations at the back.

In Georgian times, etuis* - word of French origin - were very popular, they were small, usually ornamental cases for holding articles such as needles, scent bottles, vanity items .

Height: 5.5cm / 2.2 inches.

Width at base: 3.5cm / 1.3 inches.

Very good for the age.

Tortoiseshell in very good condition.

Glass scent bottle in perfect condition.
