Description

A large and rare, fine quality mid 19th century Ceylonese solid ebony bijouterie cabinet or display table. Of serpentine form with plate glass top and carved shaped edge. The lid opens and is supported by two stays and has a good quality working brass lock with key. The base section having a superb solid ebony carved serpentine shaped frieze and the whole supported on fantastic carved cabriole legs with beautiful caryatid heads and shaped feet. Ebony ( Diospyros ebenum) is a species of ebony that is found throughout the flat dry country of the east and southeast coastal regions of Ceylon (Sri Lanka). This ebenum species excelled above other species in evenness and intensity of its colour. Condition - very good and original. Dimensions:- Height…32’’/ 81.5cm. Width…43.5’’/ 110.5cm. Depth…30.75’’/ 78cm. Delivery to most of U.K. mainland £55.
