Description
A very sensitively handled Circa 1700 Wood Sculpture of Saint Michael vanquishing the Devil. Retaining much Polychrome, St Michael stands almost apologetically above the Devil. His serene head turned softly to one side has exquisite tenderness . The Devil in contrast has less carved detail lavished upon it,his oversized claws stretching upwards for mercy . (the lance is a recent replacement. the sword missing.Wings missing. paint losses).
