Collinge Antiques has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
Open the bureau to reveal a leather writing surface and fitted interior with pigeon holes and six small stationery drawers with inlaid satinwood fronts and original gilded knobs. Decorative front with a dramatic pierced swan neck pediment over a dental cornice and inlaid frieze. Astragal glazed doors and exceptional inlaid marquetry work panels to the fall and door fronts depicting various music instruments with ribbon swags, laurel and holly leaves. Inlaid boxwood stringing and mahogany crossbanding. Shaped bracket feet plinth also inlaid to match. Solid mahogany groundwork and sides. Stamped for Edwards & Roberts on the top of the left hand door. Excellent condition with original locks, latches, knobs etc. Cleaned and polished in our workshops. Keys supplied.

Inside the bookcase top is attached an interesting paper label which records the bookcase as having been included in sale of items from Dunraven Castle, a grand house (now demolished) near Southerndown in South Wales and home of the Earls of Dunraven, in 1927.
