Stunning Mother of Pearl and Abalone Shell Visiting Card Case C.1860

Description

A beautiful English Mother of Pearl visiting card case with it's bright shiny patina showing off the iridescent colours of the Nacre.

The shell was skillfully inlaid with darker Abalone shell in an attractive and highly decorative lattice pattern.

The top of the lid has a tiny silver mount engraved with the initials E.C. Both the push button catch and hinge are both in excellent working order, the lid when opened reveals an ivory trim to both sides and the original red velvet lining.

Dating to around 1860, Victorian in era, the case remains in excellent condition. Measuring 4" X 3".
