Timberhill Gallery has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
Both stand on a plinth carved with a cherubs face. The figure was originally painted and remnants of the original paint can be seen in the beard and folds in the robes. The piece is probably German.
There are a number of areas where the figure has suffered worm. This has been treated and stabilised to prevent any further losses.
