Beautiful Victorian Silver Plated Sugar Basket C.1880

Description

A wonderful English antique basket, originally for sugar but perfect for chocolates, other candy, guest soaps or pot-pourri.

The basket has a highly decorative repousse design surrounding a vacant cartouche either side, which could be engraved if desired.

The basket has a good strong swing handle which will fold flat or stand. The interior is washed in gold or gilded.

The underside is where the makers mark can be found for DANIEL & ARTER. The firm was established by Thomas Henry Daniel and Thomas Richard Arter at the Globe Nevada Silver Works, Highgate Street, Birmingham.

Dating to around 1880, the basket remains in excellent condition and measure 6" x 4" and 6 3/4" tall to top of swing handle.
