Description

A fine quality Georgian English twin fusee bracket clock by noted maker French of London. An ebonised case surmounted by original brass finials. Side brass handles and sound fretwork panels. A convex glass and cast bezel. High quality brass case inlays. A strike/silent lever above 12 position. A convex painted dial signed 'French, Royal Exchange London'' with blued steel hands. The original wall mounted bracket. Pull cord hour bell repeating. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell with a well engraved backplate with makers name. Circa 1815.

French of Royal Exchange, London is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as being a member of the Clockmakers Company from 1810-1840. A clock is noted in the Guildhall Museum.
