Antique Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A fine quality Scottish mahogany regulator longcase clock. Superb choice veneers and inlays to the case. An arched pediment surmounted by the original brass stags head. A concave brass bezel to the hood. Fluted trunk side columns. A circular silvered dial with date and seconds indicators. A fine quality precision regulator movement with dead beat escapement and maintaining power. A wooden rod and brass cylinder pendulum. An 8-day duration movement and hourly bell striking.

Peter Whytock and Son worked from 1844 to the early 1900's in Dundee. They are recorded as working in Whytes' 'Scottish Watch and Clockmakers' book.

Height 7ft 2 " / 218 cms
