Antique Longcase Clock

Description

A fine quality early London Japanned longcase clock. A flat moulded hood pediment with fretwork. Gilded hood front and rear capitals with side glass hood apertures. A long trunk door to the well proportioned, slim case. A brass and silvered dial with border engraving. Ringed winding holes and decorative engraving around the date aperture. Finely pierced blued steel hands. An 8-day duration mechanism with internal striking countwheel. 5-pillar construction, brass cased weights and hourly bell striking.

Thomas Bushnell was working at The Dial, East Smithfield in 1692 and was living in the Parish of St. Botolph, Aldgate in 1694. He joined the Livery Company of Joiners in 1712.
