In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It has a carrying handle on the top and I would imagine this was specially made to carry tools or equipment for a particular trade or perhaps store somebody's collection.
It is in good original condition and displays very nicely with a lovely aged patina. It has had some repairs over the years and picked up a few minor knocks and scuffs and small splits over the years and signs of age and use but nothing detrimental. The drawers all open and close smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside.
