Youngs Antiques has dated this piece to the 18th Century.

A very similar example can be found in the book of English country furniture 1500-1900 by David Knell on Page 314 - fig. 485 .
Interestingly this particular chair was once painted and was stripped with some kind of file - long before paint stripper was invented and so the chair has developed an almost entirely whittled effect with the files marks still present on the timber.
The chair has fantastic colour and patination and is in excellent solid condition.
