Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Russian shaded enamel, often produced during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, is a technique where finely ground coloured glass paste is painted into wire filigree cells on a silver or silver-gilt base to create delicate colour gradients and shading.

Craftsmen formed the body from silver, applied gold plating to create silver-gilt, and soldered thin silver wires onto the surface to outline the design motifs before filling each section with vitreous enamel pastes and firing the piece in a kiln.

Authentic pieces generally bear official Imperial Russian hallmarks, such as the 84 zolotnik silver standard mark, city marks like Moscow or Saint Petersburg, and recognized maker initials or full maker stamps such as Khlebnikov or Faberge.

Small decorative enamel objects work well when displayed on a tray upon a sideboard, placed inside a glass curio cabinet, or styled atop a stack of design books on a desk to add colour and historical texture.

Dust the surface gently with a soft, clean, microfibre cloth, keeping the object free from liquid silver polishes or abrasive chemical cleaners that can scratch glass enamel and strip the thin gilded coating.
