Corvidae Antique has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
The lower section with teardrop dangle is a separately articulated piece, which trembles prettily as the wearer moves.

The Georgians would paint a black dot on the bottom end of paste stones (the culet) to help give an illusion of depth and make them look more like real diamonds as they sparkled in the candlelight.
The stones are encased in typically Georgian balloon back settings, with foiled backs behind to reflect the light for added sparkle.

The bail is an open hook, fixed to the piece and suitable for wearing on a ribbon or chain.
In very good antique condition. Two of the large balloon back settings have small dents. One side of the cross curves back slightly more than the other. We believe some of the smaller rose-cut stones (notably those surrounding the central paste) are replacements. These flaws are imperceptible when the cross is worn and in no way detract from its amazing impact!
