In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The interior is lined in satinwood and it also has a small fitted top section with a domed lift up lid. The davenport is beautifuly inlaid with stringing and ornate scrolling corner motifs around the writing surface and on the top compartment. It stands on four small round feet with castors below.
It is in good condition for its age. The piece has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. The drawers open smoothly and the interior is generally clean and tidy with a few small marks and old splits. The walnut has developed a wonderful rich colour and there are no major damages to the exterior. However there are some signs of age and use, small old splits, small chips to the veneer around some of the drawers and an old repair by the lock. Please note there are no keys with the davenport.
