Description

Stunning & rare pair of antique Venetian Blackamoor candelabra sculptures. They are in good condition & the candelabras have been wired up for lighting more recently. They are very large, incredibly detailed & the Nubian figures are very lifelike. These pieces were made from carved Italian wood, under layers were applied, then they were gilded in places had other specialised finished applied elsewhere. The result was magnificent. Please enlarge all the images to see all the fine details & condition, because I couldn’t possibly describe everything. We just took them out of a large residence near London & the previous owners had purchased them in Paris many years ago & had them wired. I would date them to the last quarter of the 19th century, or possibly early 20th. Difficult to say exactly as I’m not an expert in blackamoors. I do know that these are the finest items I have come across.
