Machine Age Modernist 1930'S Art Deco Chrome Clock by Smiths

1920 - 1940
Description

In the rare machine age style this Art Deco beauty is completely authentic, dating to the 1930's and manufactured by the English clock makers 'smiths'. The chrome is in very good condition, not perfect but certainly above average, free from pitting or heavy tarnishing. The black accents are solid brass, and overall makes the clock deceptively heavy given it's size.

There's an AC wave under the 12 o'clock rotates as the clock runs and so lets you know the clock is running, being electric the movement it is completely silent. A synchronous mains movement relies on a 50 Hz AC current for accuracy; in time of peak demand this frequency may drop slightly but the National Grid will step it up so that it always averages 50 Hz over a day. The variation is so slight you won't notice it so this clock is consequently very accurate in it's time keeping accuracy.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
