Japanese Shibayama Card Case, Signed. C. 1890. Meiji Period.

Description

A Japanese Shibayama style card case, c. 1890, Meiji Period. The front of the case painted with cranes amongst flowering plants, and insects, decorated in gilt and inlaid hardstones.

The reverse painted in gilt lacquer, with two panels, with scenes of Mount Fuji above river landscapes. Further decorated with gilt and inlaid sprays of flowers.

Signed - Joho.

Length - 8 cm, 3 1/8”.

Width - 4.5 cm, 1 3/4”.

Depth - 6 mm, 1/4”.

Condition - Excellent. No repairs.
