Japy Freres Ormolu and Sevres Porcelain Clock ~ the Gardener

19th century
Description

**Shipping worldwide as usual**

~ French - Circa 1860 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A beautiful and early antique French clock depicting a gardener taking a moment's rest with a song bird to his side. It is finely modelled in ormolu (finely gilded bronze) and is mounted with exquisite Sevres style porcelain. These have delicately painted panels of garden flowers and a cherub, inset in a bleu Celeste ground. To the side are the gardeners watering can and tools.

The dial is porcelain with finely cut brass hands. Unusually the case is marked with the movement serial number along with the porcelain, the pendulum and the bezel. Please note that this type of clock does not have a front or rear bezel.

The French movement is by Japy Frères and is of high quality. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video available of the clock running, please email for a link.

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean, crisp and bright with just some slight wear where the clock has been handled over the years. The porcelain is also in excellent condition with just some slight wear to the over-glaze gilt decoration.
