The Atmos clock is a mechanical timekeeping device invented by Jean-Leon Reutter in 1928 and refined by Jaeger-LeCoultre. It derives its energy from minute changes in atmospheric temperature and pressure, allowing it to run continuously without manual winding.

Atmos clocks are constructed using precision brass components, often gilded or nickel-plated, set within a heavy glass-panelled frame. The internal power source relies on a sealed copper capsule filled with ethyl chloride gas.

Authentic models feature the Jaeger-LeCoultre branding printed or stamped on the dial and movement, along with a stamped serial number located on top of the mechanism. Genuine pieces also feature a distinctive floating torsion pendulum suspended at the base.

An Atmos clock is ideally positioned on a dark wood mantelpiece, executive desk, or minimalist shelving unit. The transparent glass casing allows natural light to highlight the internal brass movement from all angles.

An Atmos clock must be kept perfectly level on a stable, vibration-free surface. Before moving the timepiece, the pendulum locking lever must be engaged to prevent damage to the delicate suspension spring.
