Regency Pope Joan Game Board. Circa 1820

Description

Unusual Regency turned boxwood Pope Joan games board with cenral circular lidded compartment and eight radiating compartments with hand painted decoration to lip. All revolves on a central circular base. Pope Joan is a game of intrigue using a pack of cards and counters (or coins) and was popular in Scotland in the 18th and 19th century. (Rules are included).
