19th Century Anglo-Indian hardwood bookcase desk, the base having two pedestals on turned feet, each pedestal with a heavily carved and pierced fret door which opens to reveal three drawers, above the pedestals is a section with two drawers flanking a protruding writing slope with a black leather writing surface decorated with blind and gilt tooling, the writing surface lifts up to reveal a compartment with four small drawers, above this is a bookcase with two glazed doors either side of an open section with three removable shelves. The whole piece is heavily carved and the crowning glory is the carved and pierced pediment. A superb piece of furniture and in excellent condition. Circa 1840.
