Antique 3 Draw Leather and Brass Telescope

19th century
Description

Good example of a high quality telescope dating from the late 19th century. It is a powerful three draw telescope with a leather covered centre and brass tubes. It was likely a marine telescope as either end of the leather body is a rope twist detail and the leather itself is in an attractive criss-crossed pattern.

The condition of the telescope is very good for its age and it is fully functional with undamaged lenses. The lenses are generally clean and they produce a clear and crisp image, although I expect they would probably benefit from a clean. The tubes have some minor signs of use and age and some small dinks but nothing detrimental. The brass surrounding the lens has a small dent in it. The leather has some signs of age, light scuffs and marks and the rope twist edging has worn and frayed at one end but overall it has a nice worn patina. The draws have a smooth but firm action and the brass has been cleaned and lightly polished.

Approximate Measurements :

Closed Length : 6" (15cm)

Extended Length : 15" (38cm)

Front Lens Diameter : 1" (2.5cm)

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
