Description

Outstanding Brigg of London ebony hard wood and hallmarked silver walking stick or cane.
Beautiful obsidian crystal ball top that sits into a silver collar.
The otherwise plain collar is engraved " Rev HJ Rees-Mogg, Mortimer, Berks"
Mortimer Common, generally referred to as Mortimer, is a village in the civil parish of Stratfield Mortimer in Berkshire.
Typical of canes used by undertakers and clergymen when they wore full black for funerals.
Also of course used as evening canes by gentlemen in the 1920's 30's and 40's.
The silver was assayed in London as shown in the pictures, date letter for 1929
and makers mark Charles Cooke for the famous retailer Thomas Brigg of 23 St James Street, London.
Both were top quality makers and retailers of the period.
It measures 94.5 cm 37 1/4 inches in length, the pommel is 4.8 cm 1 7/8 inches wide.
The ferrule is made of brass.
It's in excellent condition but with a couple of minor signs of age and
use as you'd expect at this age.
The silver has had a small repair at some point as shown and has a couple of small surface marks as shown in the pictures.
The engraving is clear and sharp, the shaft is strong and has no breaks or repairs.
