Description

An extremely rare Bristol porcelain cup, saucer and spoon set, c. 1775, from the Ludlow service. Made for Daniel Ludlow, Campden, Gloucestershire, with the cup and saucer bearing his Coat of Arms. The cup having an entwined branch handle, and painted with sprigs of flowers, beneath a border of alternate panels of puce diaper and green calloute, which are edged in gilt scroll and flowers.

The saucer similarly decorated.

Complete with its exceptionally rare spoon, moulded with a shell bowl, and gilt rococo scroll handle. Painted to both sides with floral sprays.

Height of cup - 4 cm, 1 5/8”.

Diameter of saucer - 12.5 cm, 4 7/8”.

Length of spoon - 10.5 cm, 4 1/8”.

Condition - Tiny chip to spoon. Wear to enamels - please see images for detail. No restoration.

A similar spoon is illustrated in the F.S. Mac Collection of English Porcelain, part 3, Plymouth & Bristol porcelain, p.52.
