A Rare Silver Cased Travelling Thermometer

1900 - 1920
Description

A highly unusual piece of early George V silver. This rare piece is a silver cased travelling thermometer. The brass thermometer is removable and held in a rectangular silver case. The body of the case has a hinged lid and the thermometer is accessed by sliding upwards. The lid of the case can be inverted to allow the thermometer to stand, thus converting it to a desk piece. A rare and collectable item with a practical use. Dimensions below.

Condition :- Very good, with no splits or breaks to the silver. There are a couple of pin prick marks to the reverse of the silver case. The thermometer is in working order.

Hallmarks :- Clear and readable. Partial loss to the Maker's mark

Maker :- Probably Sampson Morden & Co..

Date :- London 1912.

Height :- 1 cm.

Depth:- 7.2 cms.
