A Mahogany Arts & Crafts Period Antique Wardrobe by Morris & Co

1900 - 1920
Description

A mahogany Arts & Crafts Period antique wardrobe by Morris & Co. The upper section of the wardrobe having a moulded cornice with dentil mouldings, with rectangular doors to the ends with wonderful figured mahogany oval panels which open to reveal an internal bevelled mirror and brass hanging rail. The central section has sliding shelves and three mahogany lined drawers. The octagonal brass back plates and handles are reminiscent of Gimson and Barnsley designs from the Cotswold school 1900-1910. The lower section has three rectangular mahogany lined drawers all supported on brass rectangular bracket feet, reminiscent of W.A.S. Benson. The quality of this wardrobe is second to none, with finely cut dovetails and a panelled mahogany back showing the quality of the cabinet work which can be firmly attributed to Morris & Co designs of the Period. English circa 1910
