Antique English Treen Fruitwood or Olivewood String Ball C.1860

Description

A most attractive and tactile piece of Victorian treen, a wonderfully turned sting ball made for a thick and heavy piece of timber.

It appears to look like Olivewood, but could be a fruitwood too, beautiful grain and a wonderful shiny patina with a tiny brass eyelet at the top where the string is dispensed. The ball stands on three solid brass feet, these brass parts retain their original antique patina which would polish up wonderfully if desired.

The top screws off to refill the ball with string or twine, while opened, the thickness of the wood can be appreciated.

Excellent condition measuring 4" tall.
