Victorian Silver Claret Jug 1873

Description

This stunning VICTORIAN SILVER WINE OR CLARET JUG was made by Robert Harper in 1873.

Of Neoclassical design, this superb Silver Wine Jug has a high arched scroll handle attached to a baluster form body raised on a spreading circular foot. The body and handle are decorated with a finely engraved fern pattern with a central engraved armorial of a leopard with a quill from a previous owner and the interior retains much of the original gilt coating.

In exceptional condition despite being almost 150 years old this fabulous Silver Wine Jug would stand out in any setting or would make a stunning centre piece for any Silver collection.

Condition:

Used / Excellent

There is no damage.

Note: There is a small old repair to the circular foot – nothing much but mentioned for accuracy.

Dimensions:

Height – 14” (355mm) / Diameter – 5.0” (125mm)

Weight – 578gm / 18.6ozt (Note: NOT weighted)
