Victorian Faux Bois Pedestal Hand Painted with Royal Coat of Arms and Vr Cypher

Description

An unusual Victorian faux bois pedestal, possibly originally used for shop display purposes, of sarcophagus form, the front panel hand painted with the Royal Coat of Arms and with VR (Victoria Regina) cypher to both side panels, raised on small brass castors.

This is a very nicely made piece with dovetailed joints, the brass castors are original and would indicate the intention that it be easily moveable. I'm fairly certain it would have been for shop display purposes, possibly for Queen Victoria's golden jubilee in 1887 or diamond jubilee in 1897.
