Antique English Brass Bound Mahogany Writing Slope or Lap Desk C.1820

Description

A beautiful example of an early writing box made from solid Mahogany including panels to the top & bottom with top beautiful military style brass corners. There is also a large brass escutcheon and inlaid brass plaque to the top.

When opened a red gold embossed writing slope is revealed with compartments under both sides. The deeper side to the top contains three small drawers which would originally have had a spring loaded cover, each drawer has a small turned bone knob handle.

There is a removable pen rest, a brass topped inkwell and a sloped section for postage stamps.

Beautifully French Polished to show the stunning timber. The box comes complete with a working tasselled key.

Excellent condition, measuring 12" x 9" x 5".
