Corvidae Antique has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Pavé-set turquoise jewellery became fashionable after the 12 bridesmaids at the wedding of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840 were presented with turquoise eagle brooches designed by the bridegroom.
A constant and powerful reminder of a love lost or perhaps of a sweetheart sent off to fight in the Crimean war.

The brooch is in very good antique condition with fully working rose gold C clasp. Some of the innermost (fourth in) row of turquoise cabochons are missing or chipped but this is not noticeable as they fall in the shadowy area around the garnet. We have cleaned the brooch up a little but we don't like to overpolish as many people prefer the slightly blackened patina which has taken the piece more than a century to acquire.
