Description

A good antique elm blanket box dating from the mid to late 19th century. It is very well made with dovetail joints an attractive planked top and plinth base. It has a small brass escutcheon and the inside of the box has been painted cream at some point. It is a good size for a coffee table, end of the bed storage or toy trunk.

It is in good condition for its age. It is strong and sturdy and it is generally clean and tidy inside. There are signs of use and age, some general knocks, marks and minor splits and a small old repair by one hinge but nothing detrimental and it has a good aged patina and displays very well. There are signs of old woodworm in the base which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the box structurally or aesthetically. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
