A Stunning French Mystery Lyre Clock

19th century
Description

A fine quality French Lyre shaped mystery clock with moving outer bezel. A white marble case with gilt ormolu mounts of rococo design. A Louis XIV type sunburst figure to the pediment. A convex glass to the faceted glass encrusted bezel. A gilt ormolu dial with individual enamel numeral cartouches and blued steel hands. An 8-day duration mechanism with outside striking countwheel to a bell on the 1/2 hours and hours. The outer faceted glass ring acts as the 'mystery' pendulum and moves from left to right. Circa 1875.
