Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The cast silver hinged lid is reticulated or pierced with a different bird cast in each corner.
There is a nice clear hallmark for London 1883, (a true Victorian example) together with the makers mark W.C.; the highly sought-after Queen Victoria's head mark was also struck.
Excellent condition, measuring 2" x 2" x 2 1/8" tall.
