Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1930s.
It’s the perfect size for the eight chairs, because they were obviously made for each other. The eight chairs include two armchairs with shepherd crook arms. The carvers have larger proportions than the other chairs, which is quite normal. The tops of the chairs are well shaped with carving in the middle, plus more carvings on the legs. The central shaped back splat is burr walnut which matches the top of the table. I particularly like the way the ends of the dining table top protrude a bit more in the middle to give a little more room for place settings. The burr walnut veneers on the tabletop show some wonderful patterns. This dining room set dates to around the 1930’s period & was made by the well know London makers Epstein. The drop in seats of the chairs have just been re-upholstered in our regular cream cotton linen fabric & if you wanted to replace the fabric with something else to your taste, the cost of recovering wouldn’t be much.
