Unusually this features turned ebony handles to either side ~ it certainly needs two hands to carry! c1910-1920

Such measures were used to ‘weigh’ dry goods, such as grain and it is likely this example was owned by a merchant who wanted to reassure his customers that they would never be ‘short-changed’ if they bought from him!
