Description

This stunning early English Mahogany Knife box would have stored various knives and cutlery made around 1790. Today they make very popular letter boxes, the height of elegance.

I have one in my home in the entryway and pop all sorts of papers in it on my way, receipts, bills, business cards and the like. Once a week I go through the contents and deal with them in my home office; so as useful as beautiful.

The outstanding flamed Mahogany is further enhanced with stunning two coloured stringing to all the edges.

The front has an inlaid Ivory escutcheon which houses the tasselled key which appears to be in working order. The interior has been lined in a decorative hand-marbled paper.

Superb condition and measuring 8" wide x 7 1/2" deep x 11 1/2" tall.
