Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II escritoire is an 18th-century English writing cabinet produced during the reign of King George II (17271760). Characterised by a drop-front or fall-front writing surface, it encloses an arrangement of small drawers, secret compartments, and pigeonholes designed for correspondence.

These cabinets were typically constructed with a solid oak or pine carcass veneered in figurate walnut, such as burr or feathered walnut. Hardware generally consisted of hand-cast brass drop handles, backplates, and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, and evidence of hand-planing on the back panel. The walnut veneers often show natural ageing, subtle contraction cracks, and original brass fittings with period-appropriate fixing methods.

Position the escritoire as a focal point against a neutral or deep-toned wall in a study or living area. Balance its historical weight by pairing it with clean-lined modern lighting, abstract artwork, and contemporary seating.

Maintain the finish by applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing gently along the grain. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources, radiators, and prolonged sunlight to prevent the timber from warping or fading.
