ABOUT THE ARTIST :
GALAND, Léon Laurent
French, 20th century, male.
Born 18 April 1872, in Montpellier; died 14 November 1960, in Clichy-la-Garenne.
Painter, illustrator. Figure compositions, figures, nudes, portraits.

Léon Galand was awarded a bursary by the town of Montpellier and studied under E. Michel, Delauney, G. Moreau, Cormon and Blanc. He exhibited regularly in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he became a member in 1904. He received numerous awards, including: second prize in the Prix de Rome; a commendation in 1903 at the Salon des Artistes Français; a bronze medal in 1909; and a gold medal. He was decorated by the Légion d'Honneur.

Galand is known for his portraits and nudes. He also illustrated Aline, Reine de Golconde.
