These three matches jars are in excellent condition. Some minor restoration work has been done to chips in the lids. Originally blue and white, they have been "Cobbled" with bright pinks, reds, blues and yellows. Emperor Kang Hsi (or Kangxi) was the longest reigning Emperor in Chinese History with his reign lasting from 1661 to 1772. The term "clobbered" or "clobber ware" derives from Chinese export porcelain that has had its original blue and white under glaze added to in Europe at a later date with coloured enamel decoration.
Kevin Page opened his first gallery in the world-renowned Camden Passage (Islington, London) in 1968 and has since gone on to become one of the leading and most-respected dealers of Chinese and Japanese fine art and antiques in the United Kingdom.
