Victorian Silver Gilt Mounted Claret Jug – Mappin & Web 1888

A superb quality VICTORIAN SILVER GILT MOUNTED CLARET JUG made by the well-known and sought after silversmiths of Mappin & Web in 1888.

This stunning Cut Glass Claret Jug has a beautiful Sterling Silver Gilt Mount with decorated handle and lid and a star-cut base.

The silver gilt mount has a domed lid with flower bud finial and mount and lid are both beautifully engraved and embossed with a floral design.

The superbly cast handle features a nymph with her hair forming part of the handle attached to the mount. Her dress form the lower part of the handle which is finished with another nymph face forming the lower handle mount – stunning !The spout has an embossed figure’s head surrounded by an embossed floral design.

This beautiful Jug is in excellent condition with no damage to the glass whatsoever and very little sign of wear or use which is especially unusual with silver gilt items of this age given this is now over 130 years old.

A fabulous high quality Antique Silver Gilt Mounted Claret Jug made by superb craftsmen which would look superb in any setting.
