Eugene Guillaume: French Bronze Huntsman

Description

A good quality and particularly finely detailed French BRONZE SCULPTURE which depicts a huntsman. The bearded man, who wears a feather embellished hat, holds a rifle in his left hand, whilst signalling with his right to others in his party to wait quietly! Signed by the artist: Eugène Guillaume and dated 1874. A beautifully detailed bronze; 9ins high.

*** Jean-Baptiste Claude Eugène GUILLAUME(1822-1905) was a most highly regarded sculptor, winning many awards and becoming director of the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1864; an honorary member of the Royal Academy, London in 1869 and director-general from of the EBA in 1878. Many of his works have been bought for Public Galleries and his monuments can be found in the public squares of the major cities of France.
